The team

We are an interdisciplinary team of scholars and practitioners drawn from law, politics, the social sciences, psychology, criminology and computer science, working together on how people reach — or fail to reach — international human rights justice.

We combine legal analysis with large-scale empirical data on judgments, remedies and submissions before international human rights courts and treaty bodies.

Principal Investigator

Veronika Fikfak leads the Human Rights Nudge and Break the Bias projects. She is Professor of Human Rights and International Law at University College London, School of Public Policy and a co-Director of the UCL Institute for Human Rights. She holds academic positions also at the iCourts Centre of Excellence, University of Copenhagen and at the University of Oslo. Her research interests are in international law, human rights, and public law, focusing on reparations, execution of judgments, and access to justice. She acts as judge ad hoc at the European Court of Human Rights.

Niccolò Ridi is a Research Fellow on the Human Rights Nudge Project. He is a Lecturer in Law at King's College London and the Assistant Editor of the Journal of International Dispute Settlement. His research applies doctrinal and empirical methodologies, including large-scale data mining and social network analysis, to questions concerning the work of international courts and tribunals. He holds degrees from the University of Florence, the University of Cambridge, and King's College London.

Aysel Küçüksu is a Research Fellow on the Human Rights Nudge Project. She was a Marie Curie PhD fellow in Law and Political Philosophy at the University of Geneva and LUISS-Guido Carli di Roma. Her PhD studied the interface of law and political philosophy in the asylum jurisprudence of the European Court of Justice through theories of vulnerability.

Ula Aleksandra Kos is a PhD Candidate on the Human Rights Nudge project at the University of Copenhagen. Her thesis is supervised by Dr Veronika Fikfak. Ula's research focuses on backlash against the European Court of Human Rights and analyses practice of non-compliance in Eastern Europe.

He recently submitted his PhD thesis at the University of Edinburgh, where he developed agent-based models for tobacco social contagion.
